In the midst of our campaign on the rise of mental health and gender related violence in South Africa, Russia violated international law by invading its independent neighbor Ukraine. While the Ukrainian people rose up with resilience, heart and courage, the South African government along with other countries and nations decided to sit on the fence in neutrality, silently supporting the oppressor. With Ukraine being a major exporter of foods, Russia’s invasion will continue to have a major impact on food supply and poverty in Africa as well as the continent's overall economy.
As the global effects, not only of war and conflict but also climate change, are now driving nations to the brink of catastrophe, a clear and decisive step must be taken to counter propaganda, misinformation and incitement, all significant contributors to the state of the world today. If anyone can get away with military incursions and the annexation of their neighbors’ lands, many nations will face severe threats in the very near future. We already passed the mark of 100 million displaced people and 15 million war orphans worldwide!
Inspired by the global unity that was achieved in coming together for East Africa in the 1980's through music and are recreating the effort of "We Are The World" with “Love Will Prevail,” an international song collaboration for peace in Ukraine, to rally up global support and raise funds for a psychological trauma clinic in Lviv for wounded soldiers and the rape and torture victims of the war. The Lviv Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital momentarily houses more than 1.500 patients suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and is in desperate need of renovation.
The main message of "Love Will Prevail" is about love and unity, but it is also about the danger of neutrality. The song and the video explain and show the reality of the Ukranian war and the importance to stop any oppression by coming together in faith and in hope, that the light will prevail through love and resilience. It's about the need to protect each other und to unite again, as a global alliance based on human rights and solidarity.
With the speed at which the attention is diverted away from the suffering of the victims of armed conflicts, it is important to make sure they stay on everyone's minds. Standing in solidarity to support the victims of conflict and oppression is about protecting basic human rights and ensuring that we can all enjoy the civil liberties our forefathers fought so hard for. This is where we are looking for your help, to bring this song to life, to send a message of compassion and unity from trusted and endeared faces around the globe. We must all stand up to this. We must all come together to save our home. We are one people sharing this Earth. Let's illuminate it with love and light.
