Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation
In 1992 Claus Biegert initiated the world conference „World Uranium Hearing” after he experienced the danger of the indigenous peoples in North America through nuclear technologies, the mining of uranium, the testing of nuclear weapons and the storage of nuclear waste. By the favorable response of the conference, he founded the Nuclear-Free Future Award along with Franz Moll. Since 1998 it is being awarded annually to individuals that have successfully advocated a world without nuclear power and energy in the categories “resistance”, “education” and “solutions” as well as special prizes for life time achievement, each rewarded with 10,000 Dollars. In September 2013 the organization was renamed into “Nuclear-Free Future Award Foundation“. The award is financed solely by donations, charity events, and benefit auctions. The central message of the NFFA is: “The uranium must remain in the earth.”

VIMBA Diepsloot
Diepsloot has some of the highest rates of violence against women ever recorded in South Africa: they are more than double those reported in national studies. 56% of the men in the study said they had used physical or sexual violence against women. Diepsloot has a network of NGOs and community organizations that decided to set up a helpline, which was named Vimba by Brown Lekekela, who runs the Green Door place of safety. The Vimba Helpline has two functions. The first is to make it is easier for women and children who are victims of violence and abuse in Diepsloot to access the services and support available there. The second is to collect information about violence against women and children in the community that could be useful to the service providers. It is a free cellphone-based service that uses USSD technology, which makes it possible for people to use the helpline even if they don’t have data or airtime.
